COMGRAP blog

COMGRAP, or Computer Graphics class, is all about how to use Photoshop and other tools to create art assets. Being a total noob with Photoshop, it was pretty interesting and fun to learn about all the different things you could do in Photoshop.

We started with photo manipulation, then went on to blending, photo restoration, and a lot of different things.
We also touched on using Adobe Illustrator to create lineart.

So here are some of the work I was able to save / post online.

This is my attempt at creating basic pixel art. Hahaha VERY basic pixel art.
The colors are horrible! Oh my! LOL

So, tracing is considered art right?
I did this with a mouse btw. Everyone was using a tablet, but I'm a badass.

So this was the original concept for my Final Plate, but then my friends told me it had to be Front and Back
I totally did this on the hour of submission. I swear. It looks pretty damn realistic. =))

Overall, I really liked COMGRAP class. It was really fun, and I learned a whole bunch. I now have a deeper appreciation for digital artists now because it's not that damn easy. Hahahaha. PEACE OUT.

BASPRO3 Project

So the idea for the project was a Worms 3D style turn-based artillery game, where the projectiles were affected by wind and other factors.

But after working on it, we decided to simplify the concept and turn it into a bullet-hell style dodging game.
The main character has limited movement between 3 lanes, and has to dodge bullets coming from the opposing side.

This is the first prototype we made, using a simple model loader script we learned in class.

Update soon.

Some idea that I came up with

So, I got this idea for a game that I want to make while watching my younger brother play some 8bit themed survival horror indie game.

You are the last human survivor in a hostile world.
Every other living thing is either a super-violent rage-infected human or a zombie.
Basic, survival horror, I guess.

But the twist is, the enemies you are fighting are actually other players. whuttupman. hahahaha
I have no idea how to balance this... or something... =)) I am so lost.

I'm just gonna put this here so that when I have no ideas left, I can come back here for inspirasyon.

Pictures from OpenGL

So these are just some pictures from my lessons in OpenGL.
I'll try to find some pictures of my other coding stuff, but this is all I have saved so far. Hahaha
We were experimenting here making different shapes, and I felt like being awesome and putting them all together hahaha.

This is one of the mini-projects we had to submit, and according to that little red circle in the corner, I finished doing this cube at 3 in the morning.
I think I was supposed to make 2 spheres that rotated on separate axes, but I could not figure out where the first sphere went.

Pictures from Alice

So, here are some pictures from Alice, the program we used to introduce us to programming...
hahaha. Anyway, I shall post more when I find more, probably in the Comlab.

This is some silly looping animation I made. The turtle is running away from the mummy, and the mummy is slowly getting closer. Silly! :D

Hello Bloggy World

Wassup, man. This is supposed to be a blog-like thing that's sort of like a portfolio for all my game design and development based thingers, but I'm hoping I can post more stuff.

A little background...
I'm Vincent Dominic P. Layog, I'm an 18 year old Game Design and Development student at the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde. I'm fluent in Sarcasm, kind of fluent in English, and horribly not fluent in Filipino. I live all the way in BF Homes, Paranaque city, so you can imagine the commute I have every morning, going all the way to Makati before 8.
Videogames have always been my passion. Ever since I could pick up a controller, I've been in love with games. I had a Sega Genesis, a Gameboy Color, an N64, Sony Playstation, Playstation 2, Microsoft Xbox, and all the millions of iterations of the Gameboy Advance. I currently own a DS Lite, an Xbox 360, and a Wii (which I never use).

Why did I take up Game Design?
I've always loved videogames. I loved them so much that at any point in time when I could find out more about the process of making a videogame, I was totally interested. I watched every behind-the-scenes video I could from my favorite studios, I followed developer blogs, I even e-mailed some developers to tell them what a great game they made.
My parents are artists. They took up Fine Art in college and they are very open people. They were always pushing me towards what I wanted to do, and they never said no to something they believed would help me achieve that goal. I showed them that Benilde was offering this course that I've been waiting for since forever and they were totally supportive of me studying there. I'm very thankful for them and all of the countless blessings I've received so far.

Anyway, what I'm hoping to do with this blog is post as much stuff as I can to document my journey from being a humble game design student to a hopefully successful developer! :D
